Washington Rock functioned as a valuable lookout point during the American Revolution for General George Washington in June
of 1777. From this natural rock outcropping, General Washington had a thirty-mile panoramic view of the valley and was able
to instruct his troops to circle behind Howe's troops and cut off their retreat. Washington Rock was originally purchased
in 1913 to commemorate the historical events of 1777 and is one of the oldest state parks in New Jersey. The park is best
known for its scenic views and historical significance and is a popular site for picnicking and relaxing.

Find over 34,000 acres in this national park, including Wawayanda Swamp Natural Area. This natural area features an Atlantic
white cedar swamp, mixed oak-hardwood forest and a glacially formed spring-fed lake and is habitat for the red-shouldered
hawk, barred owl and great blue heron. The Bearfort Mountain Natural Area encompasses several forest communities including
swamp hardwood, hemlock-mixed hardwood and chestnut oak forest communities.
The hemlock-mixed hardwood forest of the Wawayanda Hemlock Ravine Natural Area provides a nice break for hikers on the Appalachian
Trail. Activities include fishing, swimming at Lake Wawayanda, playgrounds, ice fishing, iceskating, boat rentals, canoe rentals,
picnic tables, hiking, biking, horseback riding and the Appalachian Trail.

A 106-acre park originally built at Finn's Point as part of the federal government's plan for defending the Delaware River,
as part of an elaborate system of hundreds of fortifications designed to protect American harbors against foreign attack.
At Finn's Point, just outside Fort Mott Park, you can see a lighthouse, now on the National Register of Historic Places. Finn's
Point Lighthouse has been restored and is open to visitation between April and October, but just once per month, from 12 -
4 on the third Sunday.

Supawna Meadows National Wildlife Refuge is a part of the Cape May National Wildlife Refuge Complex in Cape May Court House.
The refuge is located along the Delaware River estuary, just north of the Salem River in Salem County. The Delaware Bay and
estuary is recognized as a wetlands of international importance as well as an international shorebird reserve and offers environmental
education, fishing, hunting, wildlife observation and photography.
